The Brief

A home reworked for a young family that loves to host.

Set within a strata-titled landed estate, this unit was still in its original condition when the owners bought it from the developer. They wanted a more functional and spacious layout, one tailored to the way their young family actually lives. Quod changed the finishes and adjusted the plan, working to maximise the light filtering through the house and to open up the storage a growing family needs.

At the centre of the redesign is a dining space connected to a serving area off the kitchen, a small adjustment with a large effect on how the household gathers. The dining table itself was customised in Antolini marble. The outcome is a more sophisticated and elegant home, and one where the family hosts often.

I

A table to gather around

The dining space was given a direct link to a serving area off the kitchen, so a meal can move from stove to table without the household scattering. The custom Antolini marble table anchors the room, a single considered object that sets the tone for everything around it. For a family that hosts often, this is the part of the house that works hardest.

The Dining RoomAn Antolini marble table, custom-made, anchors the space where the family hosts.

The unit arrived in its developer condition. The work was to make it specific, to fit one family rather than any family.

A Note from the Studio

II

Light, storage, and everyday ease

Beyond the dining room, the adjustments were practical ones. The layout was tuned to draw more daylight through the house, and storage was added where a young family needs it most. New finishes lifted the whole interior into something more sophisticated and elegant, without ever losing sight of how the rooms are used day to day.

In Closing

Sophisticated, and lived in

A developer's unit became a particular home. The plan was adjusted for light, the storage was built for a growing family, and the finishes were chosen with care.

The result is elegant without being precious: a house the young family hosts in, often and easily.
